City of Camarillo, CA
Located about 50 miles north of Los Angeles, the City of Camarillo (City) is situated in the Pleasant Valley in Ventura County between the Santa Susana Mountains to the north and the Santa Monica Mountains to the south. The City has a population that exceeds 70,000 residents. Because it straddles U.S. Route 101, the City sees heavy commuter traffic to and from the Los Angeles metropolitan area that often spills onto the City’s roadway network.
In 2024, as part of its Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Master Plan to leverage technology to enhance roadway efficiencies and safety, and the successful completion of the high-definition Video Detection System (VDS) deployment by Econolite in June 2024, the City awarded an additional VDS installation project for three additional strategic signalized intersections. The City selected the Autoscope® Vision video detection system as their preferred system for the project. In November 2024, Econolite was awarded the contract to deploy the entirety of this additional VDS project, starting January 2024.
As part of the project, Econolite will install Autoscope Vision cameras to cover and detect all traffic approaches at the Las Posas Road and Calle le Guerra; Las Posas Road and Ponderosa West; and Las Posas Road and Daily Drive intersections. These intersections are part of a strategic corridor that sustains heavy traffic volumes. The VDS project will support the City’s long-term ITS plans to upgrade its existing traffic system infrastructure to support future transit priority and connected vehicle systems.
In addition, the City awarded Econolite a separate project that involves the Citywide installation of Opticom Emergency Preemption equipment at designated signalized intersections including 57 City-owned intersections and 17 Caltrans-owned intersections. The project aims to provide faster emergency vehicle response times and enhanced roadway safety citywide and freeway access intersections.
