In May 2024, the City of Tacoma, WA awarded Econolite with a contract to complete an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) upgrade project for several intersections within the city’s roadway network. The project called for a centralized Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) software solution and Advanced Traffic Controllers (ATC) with next-generation controller software. The contract was awarded as part of an interlocal purchasing agreement between the City of Tacoma and the State of Washington. This contract permits the city to make purchases from Econolite, pursuant to Washington Master Contract No. 04616 executed by the State of Washington that awarded Econolite back in 2017, to provide traffic signal system and ITS-related equipment.

As part of a larger citywide Strategic ITS Improvement program for an interconnected transportation network to increase safety and roadway efficiencies, Econolite will be working alongside the City of Tacoma’s Traffic Engineering Department to deploy our Centracs^® ATMS for 100 intersections. In addition, we will deploy our Cobalt^® ATCs powered with EOS software at the 100 intersections. The Centracs, Cobalt, and EOS solution will provide the City with remote access, enabling Technicians to diagnose potential issues, as well as for Traffic Engineers to make remote signal timing changes and updates.

As of July 2024, Econolite has begun to deploy and configure Centracs ATMS as well as install and integrate the Cobalt ATCs with EOS to the City’s transportation communications network.
