Located about 50 miles north of Los Angeles, the City of Camarillo (City) is situated in the Pleasant Valley in Ventura County between the Santa Susana Mountains to the north and the Santa Monica Mountains to the south. The City has a population that exceeds 70,000 residents. Because it straddles the U.S. Route 101 freeway, the City sees heavy commuter traffic to and from the Los Angeles metropolitan area that often spills onto the City’s roadway network. In late 2023, as part of its Intelligent Transportation System Master Plan to leverage technology to enhance roadway efficiencies and safety, the City approved a project for Video Detection Systems (VDS) upgrades at two strategic signalized intersections. The City specified Autoscope Vision as one of the approved video sensor systems for the project. In March 2024, Econolite Systems, Inc. (ESI) was awarded the contract to deploy the entirety of this (VDS) project.
ESI will install Autoscope Vision cameras to cover and detect all traffic approaches at the Ventura Boulevard and Las Posas Road; and Central Avenue and Del Norte Road intersections. These two strategic intersections are freeway-centric and see heavy traffic volumes. This VDS project will support the City’s long-term plans to upgrade its existing traffic system infrastructure to support future transit priority and connected vehicle systems.
In addition to deploying Autoscope Vision cameras at each specified intersection, ESI will install 15-pin to 25-pin SDLC cables for utilizing the SP3 functionality of the City’s installed 2070 traffic signal controllers. All work will conform to the requirements of Caltrans Standard Plans (2015 Edition), and City of Camarillo Standards.
